In celebration of our upcoming one-month anniversary, I'd like to take this opportunity to share some rather important milestones in the four-week odyssey known as "PopCult." Amid the laughter and the tears, the feelings of optimism and of pure cold driving fear, some special moments came and went:

PopCult was linked by six U.S. weblogs, two in the Netherlands, and two in Germany (I think). The Gallery of Forgotten Girlie Mags was the prime reason. While we must pause to consider the moral ramifications of exploiting the pre-exploited semi-bare bosoms of women on '50s magazine covers, we are also thankful that they now qualify as popular retro kitsch.

PopCult gathered over 1,000,000 hits. I'm not sure what this means, but it sounds nice. I'm afraid, though, that people will now start expecting new content on a regular basis. I'll have to start using a "production schedule" and publish things "on time." (Oh, no, no, no.)

PopCult somehow attracted readers in Japan, Belgium, Spain, Saudi Arabia, and the Russian Federation, among other undoubtedly puzzled nations. In fact, our very first subscriber to the PopCult Content Alert lives in the Netherlands. One can only shudder at what these unsuspecting people must think of all this.

PopCult was added to Yahoo! and google. Now, whenever anyone in the world should feel a sudden urge to type the non-word "popcult" into their search engines, we will be there, ready to serve.

• And hey! PopCult was Yahoo!'s pick of the day for March 25!

By the time PopCult's two-month anniversary hits, I hope to really start expanding the site with content from alternative newsweekly writers and assorted freelancers. Also, I think some moderated discussion boards are in order, once I figure out how to actually implement them. So please stay tuned–much more stuff of a weird nature is on the way.
