The
Queen is in the Closet
(Camp Records LP-3455)
No information of any sort is listed on the album, so whomever recorded this collection of gay novelty songs is a mystery. (The pink record label credits the songs to "Different Music Co., Hollywood, Calif.") But this record was most probably aimed at a gay audience, rather than being a gag record for heteros. The tunes take very "straight" arrangements and apply very silly lyrics about gay topics. Side One's lead song is "The Weekend of a Hairdresser," with a chorus of men gleefully singing:
The boat
is leavin'
It's leavin' mighty soon
It's goin' for a weekend
There's going to be a full moon
Be sure to pack your perfume,
your new bikini suit
(voiceover:)
The time is of year is ripe, my dear
I hear it's loaded with fruit!
(chorus:)
Yeah! On board for Fire Island!
Get on board right away!
Get on board for Fire Island!
(voiceover:)
I know it's going to be GAAAY!
Other songs include "A Naughty - Cal Tale," "Good Old Fashioned Balls," "Down On the River Drive," "A Bar is a Bar is a Bar," among others. No date is listed, though I would guess it's from the late '50s or early '60s.
